The population was 1,555 at the 2000 census. ==History== Mead Township was created on June 7, 1847 from parts of Sheffield, Kinzua, and Pleasant Townships. It was named for early 19th-century settler Darius Mead.〔Miller, Ernest C. "Place Names in Warren County, Pennsylvania." ''The Western Pennsylvania Historical Magazine'' Apr. 1971.〕 In the early 1960s, construction began on the Kinzua Dam and a few small communities on the banks of the Allegheny River were evacuated and flooded.
